Three musicians playing in all combinations creates a nine-sided experience. Paolo Gaiba Riva (alto clarinet), Yong Yandsen (tenor saxophone) and Richard Allan Bates (double bass) played together for the first time in three trios, three duos and three solos over the course of an evening, capturing an explosive moment of improvised music.

Nonagon Yang Deras (Malay for torrential nonagon) reflects the music created that evening in the midst of a thunderstorm at Khatulistiwa 赤道 studios in Kuala Lumpur. The pink sound of rain and distant thunder prevalent on several of the tracks, becoming a complementary instrument within the quietude.

The cover art is acrylic and ink on canvas by Shafinaz Shazalli titled Detik itu (i). She looks to capture the essence of anger, struggle and uncertainty in her art, as a counter-balance to the overt representation of positive emotions on social media, where expressing negative feelings is used as a means to manage rather than ignore.
